Abstract
Cet article définit les rôles constitutionnels de la garde civile de la Belgique et de son armée ainsi que les contours des événements qui ont conduits aux émeutes anti-Catholiques du printemps de 1857 et au déploiement du Général Adolphe Alexis Capiaumont et de ses six cents soldats dans la ville de Gand.
