Cet article étudie les relations entre le Magistrat et les organisations de voisinage à Gand aux XVIIeet XVIIIesiècles. La première partie présente une micro-histoire des relations et des échanges de capital social, économique et symbolique dans un quartier spécifique, fondée sur une source exceptionnelle. La seconde partie examine les relations entre la vie de quartier et la gestion municipale. L’article souligne le processus de négociation et d’appropriation mutuelle entre ville et quartier, et décrit la participation active et sélective des voisinages dans la formation de la politique locale concernant l’aménagement urbain, le maintien de l’ordre, la politique sociale et le règlement des conflits. L’influence des voisinages dans ces domaines était liée à leur rôle financier, un rôle qui devenait plus important quand les revenus fiscaux de la ville diminuaient (la deuxième moitié du XVIIesiècle), que dans des périodes de prospérité relative. This article studies the relations between urban magistrate and neighbourhood organisations in Ghent in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The first part presents a micro history of the relations and exchanges of social, economic and symbolic capital in one specific neighbourhood, based on an exceptional source.The second part examines the relations between neigbourhood life and urban politics.The article stresses the process of negociation and reciprocal appropriation between town and neighbourhoods, and describes the active and selective participation of the latter in the formation of local politics concerning the regulation of urban space, the policing of the streets, social policy towards the poor and the settlement of small conflicts. The influence of the neighbourhoods in these fields was linked to their financial role, which became more important when the fiscal revenues of the town decreased (in the second half of the seventeenth century) then in times of relative prosperity.
